Newborn Photoshoot Guide: Capture Every Adorable Moment!

At Littlebums Photography, we believe your baby’s first days deserve to be treasured forever. Newborn photography is more than just beautiful pictures — it’s about preserving this once-in-a-lifetime stage filled with love, tenderness, and tiny unforgettable details.

Whether you're a first-time parent or adding to your growing family, this guide is here to help you feel confident, relaxed, and fully prepared for your baby's first professional photoshoot.

Why Newborn Photography Matters

Your baby will never be this small again. The newborn stage is fleeting, and capturing it beautifully takes a mix of preparation, care, and trust.

We’re here to capture the love, the connection, and the beautiful details of your little one while you sit back, relax, and take it all in.

When to Schedule Your Session

  • Ideal Booking Time: During your pregnancy, between 28–34 weeks.

  • Newborn Photoshoot Window: The best time is between 5–14 days after birth when babies are naturally curled up and sleepy.

  • Extended Window: We can still capture stunning images up to 6 weeks old, especially with older babies who bring their own charm.

  • Flexibility Guaranteed: If your due date changes, your session date is flexible and will be adjusted based on your baby’s actual arrival.

Booking early ensures your preferred date, themes, colours, and styling can be planned in advance.

Tip: Avoid scheduling your photoshoot on the same day as medical appointments.

What to Expect During the Session

  • Sessions typically last 2 to 4 hours, allowing time for feeding, cuddles, and soothing.

  • Our approach is gentle and baby-led—we follow your baby’s pace.

  • Crying and frequent feeding or diaper changes are completely normal.

  • For hygiene, shoes are not allowed in the studio.

What to Bring

We keep it simple for you. At littlebums we provide needed for the photoshoot.

We provide:

How to Prepare Before the Shoot

To help your baby settle in and sleep soundly during the session:

  • Give your baby a full feed just before leaving or upon arriving at the studio.

  • Try to keep your baby awake for 30 minutes before the session.

  • Dress baby in a loose button-up onesie for easy undressing.

  • The studio will be kept warm—so dress in light, breathable clothes for comfort.

What to Wear for Family or Sibling Photos

To create timeless and cohesive images, we recommend:

  • Neutral tones or pastel colours

  • Avoid logos, bold prints, or neon colours

  • Coordinated tones help highlight your connection and enhance the overall aesthetic of your family portraits.

Style tips:

  • Dads: plain t-shirts or button-downs

  • Mums: flowy dresses or soft-coloured tops

  • Siblings: simple, comfortable outfits
